Soccer Game Preview: Laurens vs. Emerald

The Laurens Raiders will head out on the road to challenge the Emerald Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Having struggled with ten losses in a row, Laurens turned things around against Ninety Six on Thursday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Wildcats an 8-0 shutout. The match marked Laurens' most dominant victory of the season.

Their offense was hitting Ninety Six from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal. Kevy Velasco led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

Meanwhile, Emerald won against Westside on Monday with four goals and they decided to stick to that goal total again on Thursday. Everything went the Vikings' way against Strom Thurmond as they made off with a 4-0 win. That's two games straight that Emerald have won by exactly four goals.

The victory was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 3-10. As for Emerald, their win bumped their record up to 5-8.
