Softball Recap: Ellsworth's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Five

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Ellsworth ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Altoona Railroaders, sneaking past 9-7. The victory was familiar territory for the Panthers, who have now won five games in a row.

The team relied heavily on Karli Gutting, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Delaney Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Ellsworth was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in five consecutive matches.

Ellsworth pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Altoona, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ellsworth will face off against Grantsburg at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Altoona, they will square off against Elk Mound at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
