Basketball Recap: Shepaug Valley Takes Down Haddam-Killingworth in a Playoff Battle

Shepaug Valley had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They were the clear victor by an 89-65 margin over the Haddam-Killingworth Cougars on Tuesday. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 matches by 24 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Shepaug Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Reed Woerner, who almost dropped a double-double with 27 points and nine rebounds. The game was Woerner's 23rd in a row with at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of James Kersten, who almost dropped a double-double with 25 points and nine boards.

Shepaug Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

The win keeps them at an undefeated 24-0. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.4 points over those games. As for Haddam-Killingworth, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season.

Shepaug Valley will welcome East Hampton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in East Hampton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matchups. Haddam-Killingworth does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
