Softball Recap: South Putnam Wins Going Away Against Greencastle

South Putnam's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Greencastle Tiger Cubs. Considering the Eagles have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Emelia Wells made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wells was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, South Putnam got a big performance out of Adrie Burge, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Burge has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Danae Cline, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

South Putnam kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

South Putnam is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. As for Greencastle, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Putnam will take on Northview at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Greencastle, they will square off against Terre Haute North Vigo at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Tiger Cubs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
