Soccer Game Preview: Coventry vs. Pilgrim

The Coventry Oakers will square off against the Pilgrim Patriots at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

While Coventry's victory against Westerly wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Oakers' defense stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 1-0 shutout on Saturday. Coventry haven't had any issues with Westerly recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Coventry's one-goal win came courtesy of Cade Nigrelli, who's now up to seven this season.

Meanwhile, Pilgrim faced East Greenwich in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Patriots fell just short of the Avengers by a score of 1-0. The loss continues a trend for Pilgrim in their meetings with East Greenwich: they've now lost five in a row.

Coventry's victory bumped their record up to 4-2-2. As for Pilgrim, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.

Coventry beat Pilgrim by a goal in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 1-0. Will the Oakers repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
