Basketball Recap: Irene/Wakonda Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Emily Oien and Madison Orr

Irene/Wakonda was the 43-32 winner over Bridgewater/Emery when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Irene/Wakonda Eagles fell 57-46 to the Bridgewater/Emery Huskies on Friday.

Madison Orr and Emily Oien certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Orr almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Oien posted nine points and seven steals. Those seven steals gave Oien a new career-high. Ava George was another key player, putting up eight points.

Irene/Wakonda has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. The win made it two in a row for Bridgewater/Emery and bumps their season record up to 8-14.

Irene/Wakonda wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 54-45 victory against Alcester-Hudson on the 24th. As for Bridgewater/Emery, they will head out on the road to square off against Colman-Egan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Colman-Egan will roll in looking for their 16th straight win, something Bridgewater/Emery surely won't give up without a fight.
