Softball Recap: North Davidson Extends Road Winning Streak to Four

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but North Davidson ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Central Davidson Spartans 2-1. The victory continues a trend for the Black Knights in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won seven in a row.

Rileigh Barker spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, North Davidson's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Katelyn Sears, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

North Davidson's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Central Davidson, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-10.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. North Davidson will take on rival Ledford at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Black Knights 3.3, the Panthers 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Central Davidson is set to face off against their familiar foe Oak Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
