Football Preview: Penns Valley Area Rams vs. Somerset Eagles
The Penns Valley Area Rams will square off against the Somerset Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with eight consecutive losses dating back to last season for Penns Valley Area and three for Somerset.
Penns Valley Area is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Central on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Penns Valley Area took a blow against Central, falling 40-6. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while the Dragons are ranked 185th).
Meanwhile, Somerset came up short against Bedford on Friday and fell 26-16.
Despite the loss, Somerset got top-tier performance from Lane Lambert, who rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 103 yards on six of ten attempts. Those 134 rushing yards gave Lambert a new career-high. 81 of those passing yards were hauled in by Cole Parry.
Even though they lost, Somerset was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 224 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bedford only rushed for 87.
Penns Valley Area's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Somerset, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
