Basketball Recap: Moorcroft Falls Despite Big Games from Lani Gill and Talia Vargas

Moorcroft's game on Saturday was all tied up 22-22 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 47-32 bruising from the Niobrara County Tigers. The Wolves' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it eight in a row.

Moorcroft's loss came despite strong showings from Talia Vargas and Lani Gill. Vargas posted nine points and eight boards, while Gill put up seven points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Gill a new career-high in assists (three).

Even though they lost, Moorcroft smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Niobrara County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaci Vetter, who earned 12 points and six rebounds. Vetter continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Paige Potter, who scored 11 points and four steals.

Moorcroft's defeat dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Niobrara County, their record now sits at 13-5.

Coming up, Moorcroft and Sundance will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Niobrara County, they will venture away from home to take on Guernsey-Sunrise at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
