Baseball Game Preview: Bisbee Pumas vs. St. Augustine Catholic Wolves

The Bisbee Pumas will square off against the St. Augustine Catholic Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bisbee has eight straight victories, St. Augustine Catholic has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Bisbee is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Santa Rita on Friday as they made off with a 27-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Pumas, who have now won 12 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Horacio Olivarria and Bryceton Meyer did most of the damage at the plate: Olivarria went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while Meyer went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits Olivarria has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was David Corella, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Bisbee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .800. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in 14 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, St. Augustine Catholic didn't have quite enough to beat Chandler Prep on Monday and fell 14-12. Even if the Wolves couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Bisbee's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for St. Augustine Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.

Everything went Bisbee's way against St. Augustine Catholic when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Bisbee made off with a 14-0 win. Will the Pumas repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
