Soccer Game Preview: Grand Saline vs. Athens

Grand Saline hasn't had much luck against Athens recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Grand Saline Indians will head out to face off against the Athens Hornets at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Grand Saline headed into their last match having not scored more than one goal for five straight, but Brownsboro let them put that streak behind them. Grand Saline put the hurt on Brownsboro with a sharp 6-2 win on Friday. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 3-0.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Athens, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. While the 2-2 score might suggest a draw, it was Athens who was credited with the victory on Friday. Athens got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to Van's two.

Grand Saline moved to 2-4-1 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Athens, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-6.

Grand Saline came up short against Athens in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 6-4. Can Grand Saline avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
