Softball Recap: Waskom Wildcats vs. Cushing Bearkats
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Big Sandy, Waskom was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cushing Bearkats, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since February 19th.
Peyton Fussell was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last 11 matchups.
Waskom has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Cushing, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-7.
Coming up, Waskom will challenge Union Grove at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cushing, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 19-1 win against Martinsville on the 28th.
