Basketball Recap: Raton Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Raton took on Pecos on Thursday. The Tigers were beaten by the Panthers 83-35. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while the Panthers are ranked 22nd).

Chance Walton and Aiden Riley certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Walton shot 71% from the field en route to 10 points and seven rebounds, while Riley posted 13 points. Riley continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

Raton has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 13 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. As for Pecos, they pushed their record up to 19-3 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Raton will take on Clayton at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Pecos, they will square off against Santa Rosa at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least 55 points in their last eight matchups.
