The South Iredell (NC) girls volleyball team was the third honoree on 2015 11th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the National Guard, which is in its sixth year honoring girls volleyball. South Iredell beat Asheboro 3-0 in the NCHSAA 3A state final to claim the program's first state title. They finished the season with a 27-1 record and ranked nationally by MaxPreps. Out of 20,000 high school girls volleyball programs, South Iredell finished ranked No. 24 in the country.

On Wednesday, Dec. 16 MaxPreps and the North Carolina Army National Guard traveled to South Iredell High School in Statesville to honor the girls volleyball team during the sports assembly in the gym. Students, parents and fans were all in attendance to celebrate with the Vikings as they received their national recognition from MaxPreps and the Army National Guard.

Sergeant First Class Byron Willard commended South Iredell on its successful season and proudly presented the prestigious Army National Guard Minuteman trophy to head coach Megan Skouby and the team.

After the trophy presentation, Coach Skouby and athletic director Bobby Deal discussed what it meant to be part of the MaxPreps Volleyball Tour of Champions and more importantly receiving the honor from the National Guard. The team expressed how proud they were to earn the program’s first Minuteman trophy and talked about continuing their success through hard-work in hopes of receiving the national recognition again next season.

Congratulations to the South Iredell girls volleyball team on a great season and national ranking!
