Basketball Recap: Josecarlos Acosta's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Vincent Memorial over Calexico

Vincent Memorial suffered their closest defeat since February 6, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of the Calexico Bulldogs by a score of 65-62. The Scots were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 56-44.

Vincent Memorial lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was JoseCarlos Acosta, who went 12-for-25 to rack up 30 points and seven rebounds. That was a full 48.4% of Vincent Memorial's points, marking the 14th time in a row Acosta has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Santiago Herrera, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards.

Calexico found their leader in sophomore Edgar Mendoza, who put up 26 points and five assists. Those 26 points set a new season-high mark for Mendoza. Dany Carreon was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to ten rebounds and six assists.

Vincent Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Calexico, their win bumped their record up to 16-8.

Vincent Memorial didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 77-62 victory against Varsity Opponent on the 8th. As for Calexico, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 56-47 defeat against Central on the 12th.
