It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mustang had no problem doing just that on Friday. Everything went their way against the Norman North Timberwolves as they made off with a 42-17 win. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won six games by 24 points or more so far this season.
Mustang's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Reyes, who rushed for 97 yards and two TDs on only eight carries. The Broncos also got a significant boost from Hunter Huggins, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 102 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mustang was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 282 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.
Mustang didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Evenson Malaska, Keywan Kearney, and Tayten Duncan picked up one apiece. Duncan has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last five times he's played. Another thorn in Norman North's side was Josiah Stevens, who picked up a sack and made nine total tackles.
Norman North's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Byron Mason, who picked up 62 receiving yards and one score, and also rushed for 98 yards. Mason James was another key player, picking up 101 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Mustang has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Norman North, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
Mustang wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 29-14 loss against Broken Arrow on the 21st. Norman North does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
