Basketball Recap: Wheatley Takes a Loss

Wheatley lost against Friends Academy back in February of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Wheatley Wildcats took a hard 63-44 fall against the Friends Academy Quakers. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 672nd, while the Quakers are ranked 324th).

Friends Academy found their leader in sophomore Chase O'Brien, who posted 18 points and eight rebounds. What's more, O'Brien also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Jaxon Saulter was another key player, putting up 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Wheatley and nudges their season record down to 1-4. As for Friends Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3.

Wheatley will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Seaford at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. As for Friends Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 50-46 win against North Shore on the 9th.
