The Cathedral Catholic Dons will face off against the Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Cathedral Catholic is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over Point Loma on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Cathedral Catholic got a great performance from Mimi Botticelli as she pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits.
On the hitting side, Kayla Walton was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Tyler Price, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Cathedral Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Academy of Our Lady of Peace waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 15-4 win. Considering the Pilots have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Bryn Marsh made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Marsh was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Samantha Gehler, who fired off three home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Alayna Ma'Ake was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.
Cathedral Catholic's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.
Everything went Cathedral Catholic's way against Academy of Our Lady of Peace when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Cathedral Catholic made off with a 10-3 win.
