Basketball Recap: Rodney Beckworth's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Screven County over Mcintosh County Academy

Screven County lost against McIntosh County Academy back in February of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Screven County Gamecocks lost 72-50 to the McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers. While losing is never fun, the Gamecocks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 325th, while the Buccaneers are ranked 85th).

Screven County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rodney Beckworth, who posted six points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Brennen Fountain, who earned nine points.

It was another big night for Craig Battle, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 24 points and five rebounds for McIntosh County Academy. The team also got some help courtesy of Neo West, who dropped a double-double on ten boards and ten assists.

Screven County's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for McIntosh County Academy, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-3.

Screven County will face off against Portal at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Screven County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58 points per game this season. As for McIntosh County Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 47-39 victory against Pierce County on the 11th.
