Softball Game Preview: North Augusta Yellow Jackets vs. Strom Thurmond Rebels

The North Augusta Yellow Jackets are taking a road trip to challenge the Strom Thurmond Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Augusta will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

North Augusta gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Aiken with a sharp 13-2 win. Considering the Yellow Jackets have won six games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Maddy Dickens looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

On the hitting side, Ayla Holmes was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyla Brummond, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

North Augusta always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Strom Thurmond fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Pelion two weeks ago but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 6-5. The Rebels' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Strom Thurmond's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for North Augusta, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

North Augusta took their victory against Strom Thurmond in their previous matchup back in March of 2017 by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellow Jackets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
