Basketball Recap: Legend Falls Despite Big Games from Kale Sparks and Carson Flowers

Legend was the 56-49 winner over Smoky Hill when they last played one another back in December of 2014, but their luck changed this time around. The Legend Titans fell to the Smoky Hill Buffaloes 78-74. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (61), the Titans still had to take the loss.

Legend's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Carson Flowers and Kale Sparks. Flowers dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds, while Sparks went 5 of 8 on his way to 17 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Flowers a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Keach, who posted eight points.

Smoky Hill's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carter Basquez led the charge by putting up 19 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Kaylan Graham was another key player, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards.

Legend now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Smoky Hill, they moved to 1-3 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Legend will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Columbine at 5:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Smoky Hill and Bellflower will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Smoky Hill is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 73 points per game this season.
