Baseball Recap: Calhoun Beats Portledge for Their Sixth Straight Victory

Calhoun came out on top against Portledge on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Cougars took their match against the Panthers 8-5. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Julian Glasgow made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Calhoun is undefeated when Glasgow posts two or more runs, but 1-2-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Quentin Ruffin, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Luka Stache, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Calhoun pushed their record up to 8-2-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Portledge, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calhoun will take on Columbia Prep at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Portledge, they will challenge Greenwich Country Day at 1:00 p.m. on the 26th.
