Football Recap: Union Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Union played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 40-14 to the Lakewood Leopards. The loss continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Leopards: they've now lost six in a row.

Despite the loss, Union still got an impressive performance from Tobias Cromartie, who rushed for 110 yards and one TD. Cromartie's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 110 rushing yards.

Reed Ammons was nothing short of spectacular for Lakewood: he rushed for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six carries, and also picked up 40 receiving yards. Those 95 rushing yards gave Ammons a new career-high. Burroughs Strickland was another key player, throwing for 127 yards and two TDs while completing 81.8% of his passes.

Union's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Lakewood, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-2.

Looking ahead, Union will take on North Duplin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rebels' defense has only allowed 10.4 points per game this season, so the Spartans' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Lakewood, they will square off against East Bladen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Calvin Lacewell Jr and Jaden Lewis.
