Baseball Recap: South Oak Cliff Drops Season-High Score on Carter

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Oak Cliff). They put the hurt on the Carter Cowboys with a sharp 19-1 win on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Cowboys: they've now won six in a row.

Isaac Casas and Juan Tovar were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Casas struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Tovar pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Casas scored a run and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Tovar scored three runs and stole four bases. With that strong performance, Tovar is now averaging an impressive 1.4 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, James Crain III was a standout: he scored three runs and stole six bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Texada, who scored three runs and stole six bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

South Oak Cliff always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

South Oak Cliff's record is now 6-0. As for Carter, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Looking ahead, South Oak Cliff will challenge North Side at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. As for Carter, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-2 loss against Southwest on the 1st.
