Softball Recap: Marquette Wins Going Away Against North Mac

Marquette lost a heartbreaker the last time they played North Mac, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Saturday's game. Marquette was the clear victor by a 12-2 margin over North Mac on Saturday. Considering the Crusaders have won three matches by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Taylor Cuchra was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Cuchra was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Kealey Rick was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Hunter Hopkins, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Marquette always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Mac only posted an OBP of .250.

The win made it two in a row for Marquette and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for North Mac, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Marquette will be playing in front of their home fans against Newark at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for North Mac, they will take on Sullivan at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
