Football Recap: Maddux Burgin Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Redwater

De Kalb won the last time they faced Redwater and things went their way on Friday too. The Bears took down the Dragons 40-22. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bears.

De Kalb's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maddux Burgin, who threw for 153 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 33 yards and one score. Burgin's passing game has become a key predictor of the Bears' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise. Walker Matteson was Burgin's top target, picking up 63 receiving yards and two TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: De Kalb was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 202 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 195 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

De Kalb's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Redwater, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Coincidentally, De Kalb and Redwater will both be playing Queen City the next time they take the field. The Dragons will host the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Bears will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on the 31st.
