Softball Game Preview: Spring Valley Grizzlies vs. Silverado Skyhawks

Spring Valley is 1-7 against Silverado since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Grizzlies will head out to square off against the Skyhawks at 3:30 p.m. Spring Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.

Spring Valley made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Sierra Vista, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Grizzlies blew past the Mountain Lions 10-2 on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Grizzlies considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Isabella Lenahan was a standout: she scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Raelynn Villanueva, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.

Spring Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Silverado lost 14-4 to Bishop Gorman on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Skyhawks in their meetings with the Gaels: they've now lost seven in a row.

Spring Valley pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Silverado, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.

Everything went Spring Valley's way against Silverado when the teams last played back in February, as Spring Valley made off with a 15-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grizzlies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
