Volleyball Recap: Newport Harbor Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Torrey Pines

Newport Harbor faced Torrey Pines in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Sailors fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 2-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 back in March.

Torrey Pines found their leader in sophomore Griffin Dieter, who had 13 digs and three assists. Dieter is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 13 or more in each of the last three games he's played.

Newport Harbor's loss dropped their record down to 19-10. As for Torrey Pines, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.

Newport Harbor has already played their next game, a 2-0 win against Edison on the 18th. As for Torrey Pines, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-1 victory against Redondo Union on the 18th.
