Basketball Game Preview: St. Mary's Saints vs. Roland Park Country Reds

The St. Mary's Saints will head out to take on the Roland Park Country Reds at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Mary's is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season.

St. Mary's is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest loss since December 8, 2024 on Wednesday. They came up short against Archbishop Spalding, falling 45-24. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Saints came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 89th).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Alexandra Vandiver, who posted five points and five boards. Maddie Murray also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Meanwhile, Roland Park Country was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 57-51 to McDonogh.

St. Mary's now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Roland Park Country, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

St. Mary's came out on top in a nail-biter against Roland Park Country when the teams last played back in January of 2024, sneaking past 56-53. Will St. Mary's repeat their success, or does Roland Park Country have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
