Baseball Recap: Irvin Find Success

While Irvin's victory against Austin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rockets had just enough and edged out the Panthers 7-6. The win continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.

Anthony Badajosa was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Robert Quimiro was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Irvin is 4-1 when Quimiro posts two or more runs, but 8-11-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Criss Aguilera, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

The victory got Irvin back to even at 12-12-1. As for Austin, their loss was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-24.

Coming up, Irvin will venture away from home to take on Bowie at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.45 runs per game on average), something the Rockets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Austin, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Cathedral at 5:00 p.m.
