Basketball Recap: Evans Find Success

Evans hadn't done well against Greenbrier recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Evans Knights slipped by the Greenbrier Wolfpack 57-56. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Wolfpack are ranked 284th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Evans got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Briyanna Jones out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 boards. Those 14 rebounds gave Jones a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimariya Hinton, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards.

Evans smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 11 consecutive matchups.

Evans' win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Greenbrier, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Evans will square off against Lakeside at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakeside will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Evans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Greenbrier, they will take on Effingham County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Greenbrier is facing Effingham County at the right time seeing as Effingham County is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
