The Greencastle Tiger Cubs will challenge the South Putnam Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Greencastle is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Parke Heritage 4-3. The victory was familiar territory for the Tiger Cubs, who have now won three matches in a row.
Ali Hassler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brooklyn Boyd was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Makenzie Creviston was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Greencastle hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Parke Heritage struck out 11 times.
Meanwhile, South Putnam won against North Putnam on Monday with two runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Eagles didn't even let Southmont on the board, marking the Eagles' second-straight 2-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Mounties: they've now won four in a row.
The result came thanks to Taylor Boyce's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, South Putnam saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elliana Cox, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Greencastle's victory bumped their record up to 9-13. As for South Putnam, their win bumped their record up to 16-5.
Greencastle might still be hurting after the 11-3 defeat they got from South Putnam in their previous meeting on May 10th. Can the Tiger Cubs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
