Softball Game Preview: San Marcos Knights vs. Rancho Bernardo Broncos

The San Marcos Knights will venture away from home to take on the Rancho Bernardo Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. San Marcos will be strutting in after a victory while Rancho Bernardo will be coming in after a loss.

San Marcos let San Pasqual stack four runs on them in the third inning on Wednesday but luckily San Marcos prevailed anyway. The Knights walked away with an 8-4 win over the Golden Eagles. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

The team relied heavily on Mackenzie Hughes, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Emily Lew was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

San Marcos hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 10-2 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Rancho Bernardo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Mission Hills. That's two games in a row now that the Broncos have lost by just one run.

Ellery Housand made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

San Marcos' record is now 14-11. As for Rancho Bernardo, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11-1.

San Marcos suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Rancho Bernardo in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
