Recap: Axtell Wildcats vs. Ansley/Litchfield Spartans
After flying high against the Harvard Cardinals last Saturday, the Axtell Wildcats came back down to earth. Axtell fell 51-39 to Ansley/Litchfield on Thursday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Axtell has scored all season.
Axtell's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Keyton Cole, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals, and Ethan Morgan who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and four blocks. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Carson Lindau, who scored seven points.
It was another big night for Luke Bailey, who scored 20 points along with eight steals and six rebounds for Ansley/Litchfield. The game was Bailey's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Bailey, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds.
Axtell's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Ansley/Litchfield, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with that win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Axtell will be home for the holidays to greet Amherst at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Amherst is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Ansley/Litchfield, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Loomis at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. Loomis will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 136th, while Ansley/Litchfield is ranked 25th).
