Northern Guilford extended their winning streak to four on Friday, bumping them up to 5-1. They came within four points of losing the streak, but they secured a 31-27 W against the Asheboro Blue Comets. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Nighthawks' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 36th, while the Blue Comets are ranked 147th).

Amare Akers produced another solid performance rushing for 182 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. His longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Asheboro fell to 5-1. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this game were averaging 14.67 points allowed.

Despite the loss, Asheboro still got an impressive performance from Dallas Brinton, who rushed for 132 yards and one score, and also threw for 172 yards and a pair of TDs. Garrison Cheek was another key player, gaining 97 total yards and a touchdown.

Northern Guilford wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 14-8 victory against Northeast Guilford on the 10th. As for Asheboro, they have also already played their next matchup, a 21-3 defeat against Southeast Guilford on the 10th.
