Baseball Recap: Weaver Picks Up Fifth Straight Win on the Road

Weaver put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Ragland Purple Devils a 17-0 shutout. The Bearcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by nine runs or more this season.

Ethan Hamilton tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Weaver let Tracen Jones and Connor Hyatt run wild. Jones scored four runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Hyatt scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Jones is becoming a predictor of Weaver's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Landon Free, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Weaver always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The last time their OBP was this high was in their last eight games.

Weaver's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Ragland, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Weaver will host Dora at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Ragland, they will be playing at home against Winterboro at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ragland has given up an average of 13.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
