Softball Game Preview: Mohawk Warriors vs. Bucyrus Redmen

For the second straight game, Mohawk will face off against Bucyrus. The Warriors will face off against the Redmen at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mohawk has four straight victories, Bucyrus has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Mohawk is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 30-2 margin over Bucyrus on Tuesday. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.

Aubrey Gottfried made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Katie Woodland was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and six RBI. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mallory Brickner, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, five RBI, and one triple.

Mohawk always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mohawk's record is now 13-2. As for Bucyrus, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mohawk hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .374. However, it's not like Bucyrus struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
