Basketball Recap: Kate Sell Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat North Platte

On Friday, the St. Pius X Warriors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 55-52 win over the North Platte Panthers. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Warriors' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 197th, while the Panthers are ranked 50th).

St. Pius X got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kate Sell out in front who posted 20 points along with five assists and five boards. Those five assists gave Sell a new career-high. Caroline McCoy was another key player, going 6 for 11 en route to 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

St. Pius X has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season. As for North Platte, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Pius X will challenge Chillicothe at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chillicothe will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something St. Pius X surely won't give up without a fight. As for North Platte, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the North Platte Panthers face off against the North Andrew Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
