Basketball Recap: Hardaway's Run of Four Straight Wins Now Over

It was a good run, but Hardaway unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Hoover Buccaneers by a score of 60-57. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 50th in Georgia, while the Buccaneers are ranked third in Alabama).

Loss or not, Hardaway got some senior leadership from Akilah Shelton and Mikayla Johnson. Shelton dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Johnson went 6 for 15 en route to 19 points along with six boards and three steals. With that strong performance, Johnson is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Rhianna Boynton was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Hardaway smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Hardaway's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Hoover, they are on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-3 record this season.

Hardaway has already played their next contest, a 67-51 victory against Marietta on the 20th. As for Hoover, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-60 loss against Hillcrest on the 20th.
