Recap: Mendez Jaguars vs. Maywood Academy Nighthawks
The Mendez Jaguars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Maywood Academy by a score of 49-46. Mendez lost against Maywood Academy in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 60-47 score last time.
Leading Maywood Academy to victory were Edinson Castaneda and Rodrigo Miranda . Castaneda scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Miranda dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 assists. Miranda set a new season high mark in rebounds with five. Fernando Payan was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Mendez has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Maywood Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8.
Mendez will be playing in front of their home fans against Huntington Park at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Huntington Park is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Maywood Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Sierra Vista at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
