Softball Recap: Ketcham's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

Ketcham dropped their record down to 14-2 on Thursday, which also ended the team's 13-game streak of wins. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the North Rockland Raiders. The Storm were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Raiders earlier this season, when they won 7-1.

As for North Rockland, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

For North Rockland's part, Tara Murphy was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Murphy has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

Murphy wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Melody Nardone, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Reese Calvario was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Ketcham and North Rockland should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Storm (ranked fourth) will meet Brewster (ranked 387th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, North Rockland will square off against Clarkstown North at 4:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (79 vs. 200).
