Recap: Cross Trojans vs. Burke Bulldogs

The Cross Trojans were the 57-49 winner over the Burke Bulldogs when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Cross received a tough blow on Tuesday as they fell 72-53 to the Bulldogs. Cross was down 51-30 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

When it comes to explaining why Cross lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lauren Middleton. Despite the final result, she scored 22 points along with two steals. Zhania Fredricks was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with three steals.

Cross struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Burke racked up 19 assists.

Burke found their leader in underclassman Andrea Kelly, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. Kelly is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Dzyur Legare, who scored 11 points.

Cross' loss dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Burke, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.

Cross will be playing at home against the Riptide at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Charleston Math & Science is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Burke, they will head out on the road to square off against the Eagles at 7:00 a.m. on Friday. Hopefully Military Magnet Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday.
