Baseball Recap: Red Bluff Drops Season-High Score on Foothill

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Red Bluff). They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Foothill Cougars on Tuesday. The Spartans not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 8, 2024.

Ever Ovalle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. He also tossed two walks, which is notable because Red Bluff is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mason Lyford, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-5. He has become a key player for Red Bluff: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Lucas Owens, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Lyford wasn't the only one making solid contact: Red Bluff kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in February of 2024.

With the win, Red Bluff broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-8. As for Foothill, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Red Bluff beat the Cougars by a score of 10-4 later that day.
