Basketball Recap: Hearne Finds Playoff Glory Versus Port Aransas

It's playoff time, and Hearne had no trouble coming through when it counted. They snuck past the Port Aransas Marlins with a 52-47 win on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Eagles also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2019.

Dereion Mitchell was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 21 points and 17 boards. He has been hot, having posted 12 or more rebounds the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kellen Bowser, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 11 boards.

Hearne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 28 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Hearne has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points over those games. The defeat snapped Port Aransas' winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 29-10 record.

Coming up, Hearne will challenge Marlin at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Marlin will roll in looking for their 17th straight victory, something Hearne surely won't give up without a fight. Port Aransas does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
