Basketball Recap: Live Oak Takes a Loss

Live Oak lost against Denham Springs back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Live Oak Eagles came up short against the Denham Springs Yellowjackets, falling 74-53. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 14th).

Jadyn Vaughn had an outrageously good game for Denham Springs as she went 10 of 17 en route to 25 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Vaughn a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Taylor Smith, who posted 14 points and three steals.

Live Oak dropped their record down to 13-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points over those games. As for Denham Springs, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Live Oak will square off against St. Amant at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Denham Springs, they are taking a road trip to face off against Dutchtown at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
