Softball Recap: St. John's Mavericks vs. Mission Vista

While it was St. John who put the first points on the board on Monday, it was Mission Vista who put up more. The St. John's Mavericks fell just short of Mission Vista by a score of 6-5. While the Mavericks didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating Mission Vista 4-0 in the first period.

Melanie Chen was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
