Basketball Recap: Denver Waldorf Takes a Loss

Denver Waldorf easily dispatched Rocky Mountain Lutheran last Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Denver Waldorf Spartans fell just short of the Denver Jewish Day Tigers by a score of 42-39 on Wednesday. The game marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Denver Waldorf lost, don't look at Henry Lottridge. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards. Lottridge is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last 14 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Morgan Graham-Dickerson, who posted five points.

Leading Denver Jewish Day to victory were Solly Bielsky and Jackson Brooks. Bielsky went 10 of 19 on his way to 27 points, while Brooks put up two points along with 20 rebounds, five assists, and five steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Bielsky has scored at least a third of Denver Jewish Day's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Kornbluth, who scored four points.

Denver Waldorf's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-3. As for Denver Jewish Day, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Front Range Baptist the next time they take the court. Denver Waldorf will head out to face Front Range Baptist at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while Denver Jewish Day will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
