Football Recap: Smithfield-Selma Comes Up Short

Smithfield-Selma had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-9 to make it four. They were dealt a 62-6 defeat at the hands of the Cleveland Rams. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 257th, while the Rams are ranked seventh).

Johnavon Cox threw for 114 yards and one TD while completing 71.4% of his passes. Noah Jeter was his top target, picking up 70 receiving yards and one score.

As for Cleveland, the win keeps them at an undefeated 9-0. Considering they have won seven contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Crishard Pettaway had a dynamite game, rushing for 62 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight carries, while also picking up 31 receiving yards. His longest rush was for an impressive 62 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Kaleb Ferrell was in the mix too, providing Cleveland with two TDs.

Smithfield-Selma does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cleveland, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 20-3 loss against Clayton on the 31st.
