Softball Recap: Vernonia Loggers vs. Colton Vikings
Vernonia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 23-22 heartbreaker at the hands of the Colton Vikings. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Loggers of the 28-13 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.
Julia Busch and Chloe Schumburg stepped up to the plate in a big way. Busch scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances, while Schumburg got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those five runs gave Busch a new career-high. Evalynn Burch was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Vernonia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .635. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Vernonia's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Colton, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Coming up, Vernonia will venture away from home to challenge Corbett at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Colton, they will host Perrydale at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
