Baseball Game Preview: Wayland Wildcats vs. Union Red Hawks

For the second straight game, Wayland will face off against Union. Wayland will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Union at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.

While Wayland's win against Union wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Wayland narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Union 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since April 27, 2024.

Bredan Byrne was incredible, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Trent Sikkema, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Wayland has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 13.0 runs this season. As for Union, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Wayland skirted past Union 6-4 in their previous meeting on Wednesday. Will Wayland repeat their success, or does Union has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
